Durga, the embodiment of strength and energy, is a form of Devi. She is ‘shakti’ or power. In Hinduism, Shaktism is a branch of belief where Devi is worshipped. It is associated with the feminine aspect of divinity.

When the buffalo demon Mahishasura was terrorizing everyone, the three major deities, Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, created Maa Durga to defeat Mahishasura as they were not powerful enough to defeat him. She was sculpted by the various gods and she arose from the sacred Ganga Waters. As she was created by different gods, she acquired their qualities from them and became the ultimate warrior goddess who was the protector of the universe from evil forces.

Maa Durga teaches us various valuable life lessons. She teaches us to embrace our strength within. Maa Durga is depicted as carrying multiple weapons in her multiple arms which symbolises her tremendous powers.
As mentioned above, she defeated Mahishasura, the evil demon who terrorized everyone, which symbolizes the defeat of fear. She teaches us to face our fears and not hide from them.
Maa Durga teaches us to persist through tough times. There will be times when we will feel like giving up because the obstacles seem impossible to overcome. But giving up can never be an option. If we give up, it will mean that we lost the war against our fears. We should never accept defeat under any circumstances because we are stronger than we think. We are more capable than we think. We have a power inside of us which we are not even aware of.
Maa Durga teaches us to be resilient. When we are fighting against our fears and obstacles, there will be times when we will be on the verge of defeat. But that is when we must get up on our feet to show everyone that we are not weak. But more than proving to others our strength, we must prove ourselves of our strength.
Maa Durga teaches us to be determined to achieve our objectives. When we have the determination to achieve success, motivation, perseverance and strength will come to us automatically. We should try to find out what we truly want for ourselves. It could be fame, happiness, good health etc. When we have a clear objective in front of us, we will be able to bring the determination from within to achieve those objectives.
Maa Durga teaches us that a woman is no lesser than a man. If a man can be determined, strong and resilient in front of obstacles, why can a woman not be? The society we live in is discriminatory, it is cruel but that does not give a woman a reason to be any lesser than a man. She should remember that Maa Durga is a woman and Maa Durga can defeat Mahishasura, a demon. There is no reason as to why a woman will not be able to defeat her demons.
And even a man can be inspired by Maa Durga. The life lessons that we get from Maa Durga are not limited to gender but rather, they are universal.

Maa Durga is the epitome of strength and resilience and we should all be inspired by her.
