Lord Ganesha is the god of wisdom, knowledge, prosperity and happiness. According to legend, Maa Paravati used sandalwood paste to create Lord Ganesha. It is thought that while she was taking a bath, she left Lord Ganesha in charge of watching over the area. Lord Shiva was aware of this arrangement even though he wasn’t present at the time. When he came back, he was shocked to see Lord Ganesha standing outside the area where Maa Parvati was bathing. Lord Shiva got angry and cut off Lord Ganesha’s head when he refused to let him enter the area.

When Maa Parvati saw this, she got mad and, while threatening to destroy the world, she took the Kaali avatar. Lord Shiva asked his men to go retrieve the head of a child whose mother had turned separate after finding the truth. Ganesha received the baby elephant’s head from his men when they came back. As a result, Lord Ganesha earned the nickname “the elephant-headed god.”

India, each year celebrates the auspicious Hindu festival of Ganesh Chaturthi with glory. The day honours the birth of Lord Ganesha and is observed by devotees for a duration of ten days. It is also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi or Ganesh Utsav. Every year, it occurs on the Shukla Paksha Chaturthi tithi. Ganesh Visarjan is observed on the final day of the 10-day festivities. Devotees immerse the idols of Lord Ganesha in water on this day. Even though the nation celebrates Ganesh Chaturthi, it is especially celebrated in Maharashtra, Telangana, and Karnataka, particularly in cities like Mumbai, Pune, and Hyderabad.

Ganesh Chaturthi begins on September 19 and ends on September 28. The Ganesh Puja muhurat will start at 11:01 am and end at 1:28 pm on September 19. Additionally, the Chaturthi Tithi will start on September 18 at 12:39 pm and end on September 19 at 1:43 pm, says Drik Panchang.

This is how you can establish the idol of lord Ganesha – Ganesha idols are set up on elevated platforms in homes or in decorative outdoor tents at the beginning of the festival. Pranapratishtha, a ritual to bring life to the idols, is the first step in worship. This is followed by shhodashopachara, or the 16 ways of expressing devotion. Amid the chanting of Vedic hymns from religious texts like the Ganesh Upanishad, the idols are anointed with red sandalwood paste and yellow and red flowers. Ganesha is also offered coconut, jaggery, and 21 modaks (sweet dumplings), considered to be Ganesha’s favourite food.
