Maa Durga, the female goddess in Sanatan Dharma is a form of Devi. Devi or Mahadevi is the female Hindu goddess also called Shakti. She appears in various forms and one of the forms is Maa Durga.

Maa Durga first appeared in images from the Indus Valley Civilisation. She appeared in the Rig Veda which was composed between 1500 and 1000 BCE. She appeared as an independent deity in the scriptures. She was a major deity since ancient times.

She is always depicted with a lion or a tiger along with multiple hands where she carries her various weapons. The weapons she carries are the weapons of various gods as she was created to defeat the demon Mahishasura. Her face is calm and serene while she is killing the demon which symbolises that she does not enjoy killing but rather she protects the peace of the universe.

She is the ultimate powerful force that protects the peace of the universe. She is stronger than any of the male deities as she is a combination of all of their powers.

Women have always been considered to be lesser than men. Even in the case of deity worship, there are three major deities, namely, Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva who are male deities. But since Shakti or Devi, the major female deity exists, it proves to be an inspiration to women.
Maa Durga is both masculine and feminine in her qualities. She is strong and gentle at the same time. She is also considered to be a motherly figure as she is the protector of universal peace and order. She is the destroyer of Mahishasura who was a demon that wreaked havoc. She defeated Mahishasura with her mighty strength but while she destroyed Mahishasura, she had a serene expression on her face because she did not enjoy killing Mahishasura, rather she was doing her duty of protecting the universe.

Maa Durga is an inspiration to all women. And not just women but also men. There are so many lessons that we can learn from her.
Maa Durga fought the demon that no god was able to defeat. We can learn the importance of strength and courage from her. We can all learn the importance of standing up on our feet during hard times. We should all courageously face the fears and challenges that come into our lives. Maa Durga teaches us to be independent and self-sufficient. We should learn to not rely solely on others all the time. We should rely on ourselves.
Maa Durga teaches us that women are just as capable as men. She teaches us that women are not afraid of anything and that they can do anything if they put their minds to it.

Maa Durga is the epitome of female empowerment and gender equality. She breaks all stereotypes about women being weak and incapable of greatness. She is a strong and important deity in Sanatan Dharma. This shows us that every woman is capable of doing great things and therefore every woman has a Durga inside her.
