The cocktail of religion and political work in India is no less than an a great help for political groups of persons. In simple words, religion is a system that fulfils every wish in politics. This is the reason that, on hearing the announcement of elections, big leaders go to the gurus of different religions to seek their blessings. Actually, there is a large number of devotees behind these religious leaders, whom the leaders of political parties reach out to bow down in the court of these gurus to mobilise them in their favor. However, it is not necessary that victory be confirmed if these religious leaders have their hands on their heads. But, to show itself as a political party doing inclusive politics, such programmes are organised before elections. But the biggest problem here is that all these programmes and the process of taking blessings are limited only during election time.

The opinion of all parties becomes secular on matters related to Hinduism. On matters like Ram Mandir, the Congress pats its back for the fact that former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had opened the lock of Ram Mandir. But, how many people from the Gandhi family went to visit the Ram temple since the lock of the Ram temple was opened? With the help of the Ram Mandir, the BJP is enjoying power today, why did the Congress consider that issue as ‘untouchable’ for so long? Actually, this question does not arise only for the Congress. Rather, the Samajwadi Party also puts a question mark on all those political parties, including the Bahujan Samaj Party, who have been trumpeting secular politics for a long time and have now taken shelter of soft Hindutva. Believe it or not, but the image of Samajwadi Party, BSP, Congress in the mind of voters is not that of political parties doing politics of majority. At the same time, BJP’s agenda has always been clear and the party has prepared a wide vote bank regarding Hindutva and nationalism.

The BJP came to power with the help of “sabka saath, sabka vikawas.” But, during this time, no compromise was made on the issue of religion and nationalism. Furthermore, unlike other parties, BJP has never used religion and nationalism as a campaign tool. Prime Minister Narendra Modi must have forbidden the Muslim religious leader from wearing a “topi.” But he has been meeting Muslim religious leaders on several occasions. That, despite the fact that it has been established that Muslims only vote for the party that defeats the BJP. Yogi Adityanath has changed the names of many places in the name of Indian culture. But, in today’s time, can any political party raise its voice against the fact that Yogi Adityanath is doing wrong? Yes, political parties like the Samajwadi Party, BSP, and Congress definitely say that it is spoiling the secular image of the country. However, the term “secular” did not exist at the time the constitution was written. This was added by amending the constitution. Famous lyricist Javed Akhtar, who compared the RSS to the Taliban, finally had to write in Shiv Sena mouthpiece Saamana that Hindus are the most civilised and tolerant majority in the whole world. If Javed Akhtar wanted, he was not bound to write like this. But he wrote. Because of this statement, the social fabric of India was deteriorating, which suited the opposition parties. The decades-long neglect of Indian culture and Sanatan Dharma and the image of politics marginalising the majority class have left a deep impression in the subconscious mind of the people. It cannot be erased so easily.

Once the elections are over, these political parties forget about the so-called ‘devotees’ . Despite their promises and goals to be seen as an inclusive party, the reality is that these political parties only use religious leaders as a tool for their own political agenda and do not consider them in any meaningful way. This use of religious leaders for political gain is further detrimental to society because it ignores the power and influence of religion, which should be employed for the greater good, not just to build up a party’s numbers Ultimately, the misuse of religious leaders for political gain causes more harm than good, as it contributes to a growing mistrust of politicians and disrespect for religion in society . The end result is a two-fold problem: political parties that fail to realise the importance of religious leaders and citizens that do not trust the integrity of their elected representatives.
