Somewhere in the holy writings of Hindu literature is a story of divine intervention and the embodiment of compassion in the form of the mysterious Shiva. Even though it’s sometimes read as a mythical allegory, the story of Bhasmasur goes well beyond simple storytelling and explores important philosophical and spiritual topics. Shiva’s compassion is shown to us in its many facets via the prism of this old story, and its relevance to human existence and divine intervention is discerned.
