The essence of eternity and righteous duty is the core intrinsic value of Sanatan Dharma and its transcendental nature has been the greatest ever gift to mankind in all possible forms. Indian traditional medicine often connoted as Ayurveda, dates back centuries and the very nature of its eternal wisdom and underlying enduring ideologies makes it rooted in the value system of Santan Dharma.

Indian traditional medicine which is based on certain spiritual and fundamental philosophies, especially the idea of holistic understanding has a lot to take away from Sanatan Dharma. The holistic approach is to attain a balanced and harmonious physical and spiritual state for a long healthy life. The concept of healing in Indian traditional medicine is almost synonymous with Dharma which is the act of goodness. Sanatan Dharma believes in the idea of a spiritual and psychological element irrespective of any illness and in this context, traditional Indian medicine does strive to align an individual’s health with their unique Dosha.

Another facet of Sanatan Dharma is the attainment of a balanced spiritual, mental and physical state, which is where Yoga has surpassed all expectations. This ancient Indian medicine in the form of asanas along with Ayurveda shares the Sanatan Dharma principle of dosha balancing, eventually creating a state of fulfilment and liberation from all illnesses. The very ideology behind Yoga is to self-introspect, realise, and become one with the universal consciousness and that is the eternal truth of Sanatan Dharma.

Meditation is a way of life that has been an eternal element of both Sanatan dharma and traditional Indian medicine to attain an evolved state of consciousness. This yogic tradition which is deeply rooted in Hinduism has defined peace and health in the most pragmatic manner, ever since mankind has been there. It is not just a spiritual practice, but a process of understanding one’s breath and true nature. Traditional Indian medicine is a manifestation of the Sanatan ideologies including inner exploration, spiritual awakening, and divine connection in the form of meditation.

Another profound influence of Sanatan ideology on Indian medicine is herbalism. Herbal medicine is based on traditional wisdom along with an understanding of plants. This traditional medicine aligns with the Sanatan approach of healing and attaining physical and spiritual equilibrium by understanding the imbalances and individual constitution. The underlying principle is to attain a sense of body mind balance and evolve to be a healthy soul that can resonate with the inner chakras. In a nutshell, holistic healing goes in tandem with the innate philosophies of Sanatan dharma to purify the doshas.

Other ancient medicines that stem from the principles of Sanatan dharma are practising mindfulness, pranayama and integrative healing which is a combination of modern medical treatments along with conventional healing therapies. Overall, the healing modalities in Indian traditional medicine encompass Sattvic diet, mental clarity, spiritual awareness and strengthening the inner Chakras. Overall, traditional medicine operates within the context of a certain social and cultural realm that is used to enhance overall being and restore vitality.
