Understanding the Concept of Dharma in Sanatan Dharma-

Sanatan Dharma is eternal and ancient. Religion is described in the Vedas which are ancient texts

        (Rigveda, Sammveda, Atharvaveda, Yajurveda).

Vedas are divided into three parts-

        1 – Mantra

        2 – Brahmin

        3 – Upanishad

which are said to guide the religion.

        Yogas

In Rigveda – According to 3-18-1

God is true, soul is true, salvation is true, the religion that shows this path is Sanatan Dharma.

        ।।ॐ।।असतो मा सदगमय, तमसो मा ज्योर्तिगमय, मृत्योर्मा अमृतंगमय।।- Vrihadaranya

        Upanishad

Meaning – Oh God, take me from untruth to truth, from darkness to light. Take us from death to nectar.

Aham Brahmasmi and Tatvamasmi. That means I am Brahma and you are Brahma. This entire world is divine.

Sanatan Dharma is also called Arya Dharma because it means superior society. There is only religion, which talks about the welfare of all.

Our religious texts Vedas, Puranas, Upanishads,Shrimadbhagvad Geeta, Shri Ramcharitmanas were all written in different periods. And all these are our base texts.

Four fasts according to Sanatan DharmaIn Dharma, Arth, Kama, Moksh, the ultimate goal of Moksha is in mind. Moksha is attained through

meditation and awakening. Birth and death are false.

        “सन्ज्ञानम्तनोति विस्तार यति इति सनातन:”

That is, the one who expands eternal, long-lasting, continuous knowledge is eternal. They question what is religion? Answer: Dharayeti Dharma: That is, whatever is followed is religion. Whose

knowledge is available to us from time immemorial through Shruti, Smriti, Vedas, Puranas, Itihasas, He is eternal.

In Sanatan Dharma, religion has been adopted as a way of life, in which it is said not to harm others, to save life and to walk on the right path.

Mahatma Gandhi has called himself a staunch Sanatani Hindu. According to him, Hindu is one who-

        1- Non-violence is prohibited

        2- Always speaks the truth

        3- Gives support to life

4- Is free from pride and jealousy

        Vrihadaranya Upanishad

        “सर्वेभवन्तुसुखिनः सर्वेसन्तुनिरामयाः

        सर्वेभद्राणि पश्यन्तुमा कश्चिद्दुःखभाग्भवेत् “

That is, all living beings should be happy, all should be satisfied, all should be healthy, all should be gentlemen, no one should have any kind of sorrow. This is the origin of Sanatan or Sanatan Dharma.

There is no fanaticism in Hindu religion, it is a way of life – Supreme Court

The basic elements of Sanatan Dharma are truth, non-violence, renunciation, mercy, forgiveness, charity, meditation etc.

Sanatan Dharma is not an order, it is a philosophy that means how life can be made joyful and how one can attain freedom, its path has been explained. There is no provision of following any order in Sanatan Dharma.
