Why is Parvati called Annapurna?
Goddess Parvati took the form of Goddess Annapurna to tell everyone that food is the most sacred material needed for survival. Once it happened that Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva disagreed over the materialistic nature of the world.Lord Shiva said that “everything of material nature is “maya” or an illusion, including food.”
The Goddess who governs the materialistic things of the world got infuriated . She vanished to teach the world how important the food is,that she provides. Soon, the famines struck and the world was deprived of food. Even the Gods failed.
Lord Shiva soon realised his mistake, then the Goddess Annapurna offered her food as alms to Lord Shiva.
