        Rudra Abhishekam 

        “Alankaarapriyo Vishnuh, Abhishekpriyah Shivah,” which means Lord Vishnu is fond of Alankar (beautiful ornaments, delicate dresses, and so on), while lord shiva is fond of Abhishek.

        “Om Namo Bhagavate Rudraya” – a mesmerizing mantra that states ‘I bow down to Lord Shiva.’ The Great Saint Adi Shankaracharya acknowledged it as a mantra that will fulfil all your desires and lead you towards liberation, ‘Moksha.’

        Lord Shiva, also known as ‘Rudra’, is the fiercest form of his avatar. Likewise, Rudra Abhishekam refers to the Shiva lingam ceremonial bath with the holy Panchamrit. According to Vedic Scriptures, our Saints and Sadhus perform this ritual to please Bholenath (Lord Shiva).

        Cow’s Milk: Cow milk signifies nourishment. It has many benefits. It nurtures our consciousness with beliefs and knowledge. All this leads us to be spiritually strong.

        Ghee: The ghee made from cow’s milk will help us attain liberation. It reminds us of our most significant obligation of realizing our True selves.

        Honey: Honey helps release sorrow and one’s life problems. It evokes us to fill our lives with sweetness and to erase painful memories of the past.

        Curd: It cherishes the beautiful way to preserve our lifetime experiences and stay happy.

        Sugar: Sugar helps remove enmity. It gives us the courage to adapt to any situation.

        Bhasma: Bhasma denotes a crucial meaning to detach ourselves from the materialistic world. It alerts us to realize our faithful souls.

        Chandan: The Chandan helps purify the soul. It brings a sense of divine fragrance to one’s life.

        How is the Rudra Abhishekam Performed?

        The Shiva Lingam is a bathe with the holy chanting of the Mantra- Rudra Sukhta (Shiva Rudra Abhishekam Mantra). The devotee has to pour the above ingredients on the Lingam. You may also notice a copper pot filled with water continuously dripping on the Shiv lingam in all Shiva temples.

        Vedik Sadhaks perform Rudra Abhishekam along with Lakshmi Pooja in the morning. The pooja continues for an entire day with continuous chanting of the auspicious mantra.

        Following this, beautiful flowers, especially the lotus and Bilava patra tree’s (belpatra) leaves, are offered to Lord Shiva. After all these rituals, aartis of 108 diyas lit and prasad made of pure ghee distributed among sadhaks and devotees who attend the pooja in the temple.

        You can also perform this pooja at your home with proper guidance from a priest or a Guru.

        Best time to perform Rudra Abhishekam 

        There is no best time, but one can also serve it regularly. For instance, the most auspicious days are Mondays of Shravan Maas (Month), Mahashivratri, and Shivratris.

        If you have pitru doshas and mangal doshas in your horoscope, performing the pooja on amavasyas (no moon) on Tuesday is significant.
